Sound Design AudioUnit processing

Keymap Pro 2 offers a new way to use your AudioUnit plugins as synthesis building blocks for your samples. Each Keymap Pro 2 layer uses a chain of up to 4 plugins, dynamically allocated for each single zone, with extensive modulation possibilities. You can create sounds filtered by your hi-end EQ plugins, or with a complex variable distortion based on velocity, or with delays tied to the loop length, or....  your creative imagination is the only limit here.

Extensive modulations and Versatile Envelopes

The new modulation system offers 6 envelopes for each zone, with multiple modes, including step, linear, bezier, exponential. Each envelope can be looped, and the modulation system can optionally scale in realtime the envelope length  to match each sample loop length. The envelopes can also modulate any number of parameter in the plugin chains, the built-in AudioFXs, volume and pan for each zone.

Smooth Fade In/Out

The new fade in/out system in Keymap Pro 2 offers multiple shapes, including continuously variable-shape.  As for all parameters in Keymap Pro 2, it’s possible to edit fades length and shape for multiple zones at once in a simple and intuitive way.

All the loop crossfades modes you can think of

Crossfades are a very useful audio technique for creating smooth loops. However, not all audio materials are the same, and for this reason, Keymap Pro 2 offers five different crossfade types including normal, reverse layer, bidirectional, bowtie, and multilayer, with several crossfade shapes including variable-shape.

Single Cycle loops

Keymap offers great tools for creating and editing single cycle loops. You can create a single cycle loop by simply selecting a point of the sample and pressing a key. Keymap will also automatically set the loop tune so that the single cycle plays at the right pitch, and can also retune short loops of arbitrary length, letting you to explore different formants for that cycle, a bit like a sync oscillator does in a synth.

Single Cycle Loop Explorer

Sometimes you might be working on long evolving samples and you might want to experiment with the single cycle loop at various points over the samples length. The Single Cycle Loop Explorer lets you move the single cycle loop around the sample by dragging a slider. You can also use this for multiple Zones.

Sub freeze

Carry any action in the Sound Design department without fearing overloads, thanks to the Sub Freeze feature which transparently freezes Loops, AU plug-in processing or resynthesis to free CPU resources, without disrupting the real time experience of Keymap Pro. This feature can be either RAM-based (quicker) or disk-based (slower but useful for working with bigger sample-sets).

Escher, Penrose and Moebius Looping Machines

The new Escher, Penrose and Moebius Machines are three distinct DSP algorithms created by Redmatica, designed to capture the sonic fingerprint of any selection of a sample and create a smooth loop out of that sonic fingerprint without using any crossfade processing. The Penrose machine is also amazing in that there are no parameters to set... you just use it.

The results can’t be described with words and redefine the meaning of “looping samples”. As for all other features in Keymap Pro 2, this is a completely realtime and non destructive process.

Psychoacoustic-based AutoLoop algorithms

Regardless if your sample is rhythmical or not, has a steady tempo or not, Keymap Pro 2 will find the best loop automatically for you. As always, the function is very simple to use: just select a sample area (up to the entire sample), and you “Autoloop”  it, and that’s all. You can also search for loops by limiting the search Zone only to a certain range over the sample. Autolooping can be performed on multiple Zones at once.

Smooth loop blending

Often a highly processed crossfaded loop sounds very good by itself but doesn’t really blend with the attack or release sample portions. In Keymap Pro 2 you can blend the loop content with the attack and release sections, using the PreLoopStart and PostLoopEnd variable-shape  crossfades. These tools are also very useful if you want to blend a sonically complex attack into a single cycle loop.
